What is Aluminium checker plate used for?

It is most commonly used for flooring, caravans, ute trays, tool boxes, trucking and caravans. It has both structural and decorative uses.

How is the thickness of Aluminium checker plate measured?

When it comes to correctly measuring aluminium checker plates there are few important things to consider. Here’s a list of things to look for when measuring aluminium checker plates.

  • When you’re specifying the thickness of the material, the measurement should ideally be taken from the flat area of the sheet instead of the raised checker pattern. Manufacturers usually leave room for a small amount of tolerance in the sheet thickness. For instance, a 2.55mm sheet you would probably get readings around 2.35-2.5mm.
  • When measuring, you should first use a micrometer in order to measure the base plate of your checker plate.
  • Measure different parts of the checker plate several times
  • Calculate the average. This gives you the thickness of the tread plate.

What metal is checker plate?

Aluminium alloy 5052 in most uses. Although it can be ordered in other grades in thicker sizes (4mm+) for structural uses.

What size are checker plates?

Checker plates are usually a standard size of 1,200 x 2,400, but can go up to 1,500 x 3,000 in non-standard sizes.

Thickness ranges from 1.6mm up to 6mm, although even thicker can be ordered in if required.
